چکیده

Fig. 1 shows one such scene. A group of family accepted a tour. While the robot explained a shop at a stop (Fig. 1-a), a child (not part of the tour) noticed the robot and approached it from its right (Fig. 1-b). Since she remained in front of it, the robot was not able to move to the next location (Fig. 1c). The family briefly watched and then left (Fig. 1-d). Since the new girl did not follow the tour, it became empty. The tour failed.

Master of Engineering Thesis Proposal The Campus Tour Bot: A Robotic Tour Guide For MIT

As technology advances, robots will become more prevalent in society. In order for the robots to be effective, considerable research in human-robot interaction needs to be done to discover how to integrate robots into our society. This paper describes a robot, the Campus Tour Bot, that will become a part of the MIT campus. The robot will provide a platform for studying humanrobot interactions w...

Voice enabled interface for interactive tour-guide robots

This paper considers design methodologies in order to develop voice-enabled interfaces for tour-guide robots to be deployed at the Robotics Exposition of the Swiss National Exhibition (Expo.02). Human-robot voice communication presents new challenges for design of fully autonomous mobile robots, in that interactivity must be robot-initiated in conversation and within a dynamic adverse environme...

Multimodal interaction management for tour-guide robots using Bayesian networks

− In this paper, we propose a Bayesian network framework for managing interactivity between a tour-guide robot and visitors in mass exhibition conditions, through robust interpretation of multi-modal signals. We report on methods and experiments interpreting speech and laser scanner signals in the spoken dialogue management system of the autonomous tour-guide robot RoboX, successfully deployed ...

Veronica JagBot: A Robotic Campus Tour Guide

In this paper we present a description of an autonomous mobile robot currently being designed and constructed at the University of South Alabama. The robot will function as a tour guide to interact with prospective students and other interested groups to answer questions related to the University and its academic programs. The robot, named Veronica JagBot is intended to promote human computer i...

Spontaneous, Short-Term Interaction with Mobile Robots

Human-robot interaction has been identified as one of the major open research directions in mobile robotics. This paper considers a specific type of interaction: short-term and spontaneous interaction with crowds of people. Such patterns of interactions are found when service robots operate in public places, for example information kiosks, receptionists, tour-guide robots applications. We descr...
